    Warranty issues

Have you ever heard of a rider taking a bike to a dealer and the latter declining to honor the warranty claim just because some modifications have been done on the bike? I think this is something a dealer can use to try and avoid carrying out a particular repair.

How does the law protect us against such occurrences and how far can you go as far as modifying your Harley is concerned?

I know generally when you make any modifications to something that is under warranty, then you void the warranty. But I can honestly say that I hadn't thought about this when it concerns bikes, and I would love to know what others here think, or if anyone has experienced this before.

I haven't had to go through that yet, fortunately, but I've read so many complaints and issues about the problems people have with both the bike and the dealer. I have to say that I do believe there are more satisfied customers than not, but each case is unique and I think you should research all these questions before you get into such a situation yourself.

It is much like a car. When you do mods you're taking a risk. That being said, typically the dealer has to be able to prove that the the mod was the direct cause of the failure for them to not honour warranty. For example you replace the mufflers and then your starter malfunctions, you're pretty safe.

Most dealers that I have come across are used to the usual mods and don't really seem to care. The best bet is to talk to the service guys and see how far you can go.
